Ora Erdmann started raising registered angus cattle in 1943 in Wetonka, South Dakota. Our first production sale was in 1969 with Ora, Leroy, and Albert Erdmann. The three Erdmann men sold cattle all across the nation for over 20 years. Ora, Leroy, and Albert are responsible for initiating the trend of big framed cattle with longevity and productivity. The EAR herd continues to build on those same values. All females today can be traced directly back to the founding females originated by Ora Erdmann in the 1940s. Through the use of artificial insemination for many years, the Erdmann family has brought new bloodlines to the old gene pool.
Albert, Dan, and Joe expanded the operation by raising and selling registered angus cattle by private treaty. In 1990, the Erdmann family added a second ranch site to their operation in Leola, South Dakota. The angus industry lost a longtime member, Albert Erdmann, in 2020. Dan and Joe and their families continue on with the family legacy of raising angus cattle to this day. Along with selling cattle by private treaty, you can find the Erdmann family exhibiting the results of our hard work at local, state, and national shows. Yearly shows we attend include: South Dakota State Open Show, Watertown Winter Farm Show, and Black Hills Stock Show.
